2006 Resolutions

- Be positive in my thoughts and actions toward others. I am declaring a moratorium on negative or mean-spirited gossip, and I'm letting go of my grudges. My negative feelings towards those I think have wronged me hurt no one more than (or other than) myself. In 2006 I'm focusing on the bright side, which, I remember once upon a time, was my default approach. Reset default to POSITIVE!

- Improve my muscle strength. I'm pretty happy with how I look overall, but I'm pitifully weak. Paul and I are going to do the 12 week Body for Life program starting next week and we'll see how much I can buff up for swimsuit and wedding-guest season! Then maybe instead of colliding into swinging doors they'll actually, you know, open. And now that I'm making some money again, I will FINALLY sign up for some yoga classes at the new place that just opened down the street (says the world's most inflexible woman.)

- Finish Proust's Lost Illusions . . . . once and for all.

- Do something really, really exciting, like I mentioned to sneaker_chic. Right now in my mind this something takes the form of a cozy little cottage in a cool central Austin neighborhood . . .

Resurfacing -- My weekend

This past Friday I attended setine and memento's engagement party. killersquirrelz and I were disoriented for about five minutes, since it was the mellowest setine party we'd ever been to -- instead of smoke machiness and jello shots there was soft candle light, wine and hor d' oeurvres! Once we recovered our equilibrium, we had a lot of fun, and all the goodies setine prepared were especially tasty!

Saturday Paul had a bachelor party to attend, so xiuzan and I headed down to south Austin for a birthday party. Erin (the birthday girl) has a roommate that works for Tito's vodka, and they had some pretty powerful vodka infused watermelon. Even the hard core drinkers were beaten by it. And despite the fact it was so humid that my skin could serve as an adhesive, I had a great time sitting in the backyard in the hammock, hanging out with xiuzan and assorted Scanner folks.

Sunday killersquirrelz and I went shopping for a new outfit for him. He desperately needed some new dress clothes, and since we have a wedding to go to in a few weeks, we had to stop procrastinating. All of you who know me understand that shopping is like my therapy, but add killersquirrelz to the mix and I turn into and angry Bruce Banner. He usually never wants to try anything on, and will only buy really plain, blah stuff, and oh the complaining about how much everything costs. Yesterday was happily different -- I didn't turn into the she-hulk and killersquirrelz got some really nice dark blue pinstripe slacks and a shirt in a light summery green to match. Both shirt and slacks were on sale, too! Oh frabjous day!

Anyway, other than that, I'm broke and unemployed and just waiting for the student loans to roll in. :) Classes start in about a month and I am really looking forward to getting back into the school groove.

Uncool things about Germany

Germany is cold. Really, really cold. Except when it's really, really hot. German weather is emotionally volatile, I suppose to make up for everyone else's calm demeanor.
NOTHING is free. Wanna pee? Cough up a euro for that stall, lady!
The older generation of Germans apparently enjoys stewing in its own scent for several weeks at a time.
The pastries are too good. Several pairs of pants have had to be shelved while I work off all those Berliners and Amerikaners.

In six short days I'm leaving for Germany!! Can someone please inspire me with gift ideas for my host family? I thought some kickass Texas BBQ sauce or something like that, but when the Germans were here, they weren't too keen on BBQ. Then I thought maybe some bluebonnet seeds, but maybe they'd wreak havoc within the German ecosystem? Hill Country wine? But what if they don't drink? What else?
